Kia Ū Ora has been blessed
11 Jun 2020
At dawn on Friday 05 June, a blessing ceremony was held at North Shore Hospital to mark the start of work on Kia Ū Ora, the new Waitematā Breast Service.
Kaumatua Fraser Toi conducted the ceremony, joined by Kaumatua Arahi Cherie Povey and members of the project steering group.
The blessing took place ahead of the main contractor moving in on Monday 08 June and work starting on the new Breast Service site. Construction is expected to take around 6 months with the service operational in the refurbished space at the start of 2021.
The service relocation and expansion will allow for the introduction of a new model of care, combining medical, radiation and plastics clinics and adding radiology, mammography and ultrasound capacity which will reduce waiting times for diagnosis and treatment, reducing anxiety and improving outcomes.
We are absolutely delighted the building work has started but we still need support to reach our $2m fundraising target – if you can, please help the 100+ women who will be referred to this service every week.
