The effect of COVID-19
28 May 2020
Under Alert Level 2 the Waitematā DHB is reporting a surge in referrals to the region’s Breast Service.
We need your help more than ever to establish the new service.
Referrals from BreastScreen Aotearoa and GPs to our region’s Breast Service significantly reduced during Alert Level 4 and Alert Level 3 lockdown but there has now been a significant increase on the pre-lockdown referral numbers of up to 100-a-week.
Waitematā DHB mammography staff are now running increased Saturday and Sunday imaging sessions and the introduction of additional mammogram and ultrasound capability, and additional consultation rooms, is urgently needed to help meet increased patient numbers.
The COVID-19 Pandemic means our community needs a centralised, specialised and expanded Breast Service urgently.
If you can, please consider helping us to reach our target of $2 million to make this happen.
